Sparta High School Homecoming

Homecoming day at Sparta High School is honestly one of a kind. I don't think anyone in the world does it as well as we do.
There is formal assembly in the morning, games in the gym, lunch (B.C. Pizza!), mock rock preparation, Mock Rock, and the Pep Rally at our football field.  By the end of the day, each grade hopes to be holding up the Red Apple, victoriously
As a freshmen, I went to the school on homecoming having no idea what to anticipate. The theme was music genres and the freshmen class had elevator music. We had a good mix of music for mock rock and what I thought was a great dance, we got fourth. We did not do very well in all of the games but it was a good learning experience.
Sophomore year. The theme was Disney movies. We chose Toy Story. I chose not to do mock rock this year but really liked watching my grade do a great dance. As expected, we got third. The  next day I went to the homecoming dance for the first time. I got my hair done and went with two friends. The three of us went out to eat and danced the night away,
Junior year was expected to be a tough fight. The theme was Continents and we had fun with our continent, Africa. We did extremely well in all the games and made the senior class of 2012 a bit nervous. Before all the mock rocks, the cheer team got to do a routine. This was very exciting; especially when we started shuffling and our student body erupted in cheers. The Mock Rock we did this year was AMAZING. I thought for sure we would at least win Mock Rock. I was wrong. We fell short to the senior class.
For the 2011 homecoming dance, I went to my friend chads house where many other juniors went as well. We all ate at his house then had a blast at the dance.
SENIOR YEAR!!
This was it, our chance to finally hold the red apple. The theme this year was musicals. The senior class had Rock of Ages. I went to school ready to have fun. I listened to the speeches of my classmates amazed at the fact that I would be voting for my own classmates for Homecoming King and Queen. After the formal assembly, the cheer team did a routine. My favorite part was the tumbling. This was my first and last time performing a round-off, back-hand-spring, back tuck. The feeling of sticking my back tuck is indescribable. After the routine was the games. We DOMINATED the games. We got first place in all but one game.  I prepared for my final Mock Rock. We started the dance and we rocked so hard, we blew the system. We finished the routine and it was announced that we had won Mock Rock! I went to the game friday knowing it would be the last homecoming I would ever cheer at. We did our cheer routine one more time for the crowd. Despite the cold air, the pre-game performance was amazing. At half-time, they announced King and Queen Luke and Rachel. I was so happy for them both. After the announcement of the king and queen, Mr. Spencer announced the Red apple winners, the Seniors!
Saturday, I did my hair and make-up and put on my gold sequence dress. I thought I looked great despite the scrapes on my knees from doing the caterpillar game for the fourth team the day before on the gym floor. Once again, I went to my friend chads house. Many seniors were there celebrating our last homecoming together.  We danced all night and made our senior circle at the end of the night. Homecoming 2012 was one that won't be forgotten.
Student Council plans homecoming every year and every year we never disappoint from the theme to the games to the dance. I am honored to be a part of a group that gets to do so much for our school.
Even though we are competing against the other classes during the games, Homecoming is an opportunity to come together as a school to have fun. Sparta Nation has one of a kind Homecoming that will never be topped!
